Social Media Strategy 2026

Instagram won't let you link in posts

Build your referral path in three places: the links in your profile, the link sticker in Stories, and Highlights. What posts are for, and three lines to set before you start.

Assume caption URLs can't be tapped

The question isn't which post gets the link. It's where people will tap it.
If you come from X or Threads, this is the first thing that trips you up. Plan as if a URL in a caption cannot open a page.
💡 Meta last reported over 33 million monthly active accounts in Japan (March 2019). The audience is there; links just work differently

Three places for your path

3 / 9
👤
Profile links: the permanent entrance. Reported in April 2023 to allow up to five. The top one does the work
📲
Story link sticker: today's entrance. Opened to all accounts in October 2021. Gone in 24 hours
🗂️
Highlights: a shelf for Stories that stay. "How it works", "Risks", "FAQ", in order
4

A post's job is to bring people to your profile

4 / 9
🖼️
Don't sell in the post. "Sign up here" can't be tapped
✍️
Good topics: how it works, a step that tripped you up, what you checked. None of them need "you'll make money"
🧭
End with "More at the link in my profile."
✅ Posts don't sell. Your profile gets read

Don't send the profile link straight to sign-up

5 / 9
📝
Point the top link to your own explainer page. How it works, the risks, and your disclosure first
➡️
Put the official sign-up link inside that page. One more step means fewer clicks
💡 The people who continue have read what they're signing up for

Line 1: Don't turn posts into ads

6 / 9
🚫
Meta bans ads promoting binary options and CFDs. Don't boost referral posts
🏠
Build the path where it isn't advertising. Your profile and Stories
⚠️ Don't spend time trying to get past ad review
7

Line 2: Disclose where people look / Line 3: Don't lead with bonuses

7 / 9
🏷️
Japan's stealth marketing rules (since Oct 2023) target advertisers. Individual promoters are generally not covered (Consumer Affairs Agency Q&A)
👀
Still, say you're paid near the start of the post. A "#PR" at the end of a hashtag wall is easy to miss
🎁
Japan's FSA lists promoting unregistered overseas FX brokers with cashback offers as one investment scam pattern. Don't make the bonus the headline

Example profile

🪪
Name: your handle plus a short line like "notes on how FX works"
💬
Bio: Office worker. Writing about how FX works and what I've checked. PR: I earn referral commissions. Profits are not guaranteed
🔗
Link 1 (top): your blog's "start here" page
🗂️
Highlights: How it works / Risks / FAQ / Log

Decide where the link lives first. Posts just point the way to your profile.

1
Make your top profile link your own page on how it works and the risks
2
Disclose in your profile and near the start of any referral post
3
Don't boost referral posts as ads
4
Don't make bonuses or cashback the headline
