We assumed it was on us

We assumed low sign-ups meant our content wasn't good enough.
When a referral link doesn't convert, the first instinct is to blame your own reach or content. Our editorial team did exactly that too.

Leak one: the signup page itself

Leak two: not fixed everywhere

Leak three: not recording as ours

Our free-trial button was missing our own tracking ID — entirely.
Anyone who signed up through it may have done exactly what we wanted, and it wouldn't have registered as a referral, for months.
⚠️ This can happen to your own links too — a copied link missing part of its parameter is easy to miss

Leak four: places we hadn't looked

A handful of older, already-published articles carried the same gap

The more articles pile up, the easier it is for one to be quietly forgotten
✅ Rather than one perfect pass, finding and fixing repeatedly turned out to be the realistic approach

What's left isn't technical

The last layer left was the easiest one — and it's still undone.
One more tracking parameter needs setting up — just logging into a partner dashboard and checking two values. Nobody else needs to be involved. It's been sitting undone for weeks anyway, while other priorities took over.
